Course Description

It‘s more than writing a good story or article when it comes to being noticed by publishers and editors. Think about it, how many bad books are out there making money? How many awful articles have you read in recent publications? Do you wonder how these writers are getting published and you’re not? Do you think it has to do with the catch 22 system? In some ways it does, but knowing how to sell yourself is key. You’re not just a writer, you’re a Salesman! And the product you’re selling is Yourself!

 

Weekly Topics

As writers we are a product, not just our books. Many writers aren't successful because they don't know how to sell themselves; let alone their writing. In this workshop we’ll cover:

Week 2: Writing a Synopsis

Week 3: Websites & Blogs 

Week 4: Newsletters

Week 5 thru 7: Marketing Strategies

Requirements

No text needed; the instructor will provide necessary materials.

 

The assignments given for each lesson are for registrant use only; registrants will need to submit the assignments to the instructor. Each week there will be two assignments.

 

Registrants are encouraged to discuss the assignments with others on the workshop site.

 

There maybe an on-line chat scheduled as well during the workshop course.

About the Instructor

VS Grenier’s background in merchandise marketing has played a key role in how she sells herself as a writer and editor. Her ezine, Stories for Children Magazine, wouldn't be making the headway it has over the past few years if it wasn't for the tips she’s learned in marketing product.

 

VS Grenier is the Founder & Owner of Stories for Children Publishing, LLC. She’s also a children’s author and freelance editor for Halo Publishing; in addition, to running her own editorial and critique service. VS Grenier was voted one of the Top Ten Editors of 2007 and 2008 in the Preditors and Editors Reader’s Poll, won 2nd place for her article, “Yes, Virginia, There IS a Santa Claus” in the Preditors and Editors Reader’s Poll for Best Nonfiction of 2007, and won 7th place for her article, Dinosaur Tracks in My Backyard” in the Preditors and Editors Reader’s Poll for Best Nonfiction of 2008. VS Grenier learned how to hone her writing skills at the Institute of Children’s Literature, and is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrators (SCBWI), the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) and Musing Our Children.

 

Her works include: Babysitting SugarPaw, the Best of Stories for Children Magazine Volume 1 anthology and over 30 short stories, articles, and crafts for children along with newsletter articles for writers.
